Why Does My Back Ache?

Back ache

There are a myriad of reasons one will have a back ache, including: subluxations, trauma, sprained ligaments, muscle strains, disc herniations, trigger points and inflamed joints. There is also arthritic causes for a back ache which is caused from joint degeneration which traditionally occurs in our older population, however I have seen advanced degeneration even in teenagers. Some of the major reasons for a back ache are bad posture, excessive load and weight on your spine, living in a stressful state and sporting injuries not taken care of and having a poor diet.

Joint misalignments are clinically known as spinal subluxations.  These are one of the leading causes for having a back ache. These can occur anywhere in the spine as well as in the extremities. Subluxations almost always cause pain, loss of range of motion, degeneration and destruction of local tissues surrounding joint capsules affected by a subluxation.

Did you know many people have disc bulges or disc herniations and aren’t aware of it? It’s usually during later stages of disc herniations when a person will actually feel pain and consciously be aware something is wrong. Actually, a study found that nearly half of adults had at least one bulging or herniated disc, even though they did not suffer any back pain from it. The reason most people feel their herniations are usually due to swelling around the discs which put pressure on the nerves which are in control of signaling pain to your consciousness in you brain.
